A Special Tribute to my mother

Jean met Bill Podmore and was married in 1953. Bill swept her off to New York, where Jean embraced the thrills and sights of the Big Apple. They lived with Bill’s parents. Bill’s mother passed away in 1963, when Jean was pregnant with Mark. Bill’s father continued to live with them until his death in 1970; after the Podmore family had relocated to Mount Pleasant.



For the Podmore children, Jean was always the glue that held the family together; a Holder trait. Jean loved to welcome visitors, too, and when Raymond and Donna would visit from North Carolina, it was always a treat for the Podmore kids because the Holder children were close in age. Jean had a big heart and kind words to say about everyone. She welcomed each and every one of her sons’ friends into her home and treated them like family. Jean never met a stranger; she and Bill were loved by all.



The last few years Jean was alive, she would never complain about her ailments. She was always in good spirits; even when one knew she felt badly. Jean worked at the Post and Courier for many years and later at Massachusetts Mutual. Jean’s co-workers were her good friends, too, and when Bill Podmore passed away all of her family and friends were there for her. She was a kind, caring lady who would do anything for anyone.



Jean was a good cook, too, and even though she worked every day, there was a hot meal on the table for the Podmore boys promptly at 7 p.m.!



Bill Podmore loved Christmas decorations, too, and Stephen and Mark both took after their father when it comes to decorating! Bill Podmore would often patiently wait while Mark assisted him with decorating at Christmas time.
