Donna & Raymond's Wedding Reception

A Special Tribute

By Mark Podmore

Raymond was Ray’s twin brother. Raymond married Donna Kinser in 1958. In their wedding photos, Raymond and Donna look like a young John and Jackie Kennedy. They had a very elegant wedding and embarked on a lifelong journey of love.

Raymond loved meeting new people. Like Jean, Raymond never met a stranger. If you encountered Raymond in a grocery store, fuel station or post office, you instantly had a friend!

Raymond had a way of inspiring people. He touched people’s lives in many ways and always offered words of encouragement to those needing it. He was also a leader because of his inspiration of others.

When Raymond and Donna would come to Charleston to visit the Holder clan, a good time would be had by all! Raymond always had a way of making people comfortable no matter what. When the Podmore family moved from New York to Charleston, SC, they stopped at Raymond and Donna’s for a visit. The Holder children and Podmore children instantly made friends!

Raymond, too, loved his grandchildren very much. When Raymond passed away, he left a huge void in his grandchildren’s lives. But, he would never let anything get him down. He’s with his grandchildren in spirit.

During an especially difficult period in my life, I remember some words of encouragement Uncle Raymond shared with me. He told me “we are only young once and we can’t live the rest of our lives with feelings of regret. Let God guide you along the path we call life and you will always achieve your dreams!” Uncle Raymond was right. I finally found peace with myself and returned to school at age 40; obtaining several degrees and working for many years in the corporate world before going to work in organ/tissue/eye donation. I realized Uncle Raymond’s advice was right; you can’t go wrong when you let God lead down the right path in life and I have been blessed in many ways I never thought possible.
